"Seattle, WA – The US Department of the Interior has granted permission to Seattle-based Principle Power to seek a lease on a 15-square mile tract of federal water off Coos Bay, Oregon, for the construction of the first off-shore wind farm off the US Pacific Coast. The planned $200 million WindFloat project would use utilize triangular floating platforms instead of single piles driven into the ocean floor – a new technology that takes into account the sharp drop in the Continental Shelf that makes the waters off the Oregon coast too deep to secure fixed-bottom turbines in a cost effective way."
